A “swingin” game of skill for children and adults alike!

What are Comets?
Comets are poi balls, a fun outdoor game of coordination and skill adapted from the Polynesian tradition of “poi ball” twirling. With one in each hand, a player twirls Comets in various concentric patterns. You don’t have to be a whiz to enjoy it; basic tricks are learned quickly. And when you have learned a few tricks you can attach glow sticks at night for an awesome light show!

Kids love it. Jugglers, baton twirlers, and devil stick players love it. Anyone who wants to get up and meet a small challenge loves it.

A fun “spin” on learning
Twirling Comets isn't just for fun and exercise: it is an effective way to build coordination and gross motor skills. Thus it's a perfect way for educators to put a fun “spin” on learning in P.E. classes, rec programs, summer camps, and the like. In fact, the game is widely taught in schools throughout New Zealand and Hawaii. Physical therapists also cite its value as a physical education tool.

History of “poi balls”
The indigenous Maori people of New Zealand originated the unique art form of “poi” twirling centuries ago. They would spin lumps of dough, or “poi”, on strings for ritualistic purposes, mainly to call upon forces of nature such as the wind and sea currents.
